Monkey’s St. Patrick’s Day

As most other new moms, I wanted to dress Monkey up for St. Patrick’s Day in some sort of green shirt.  Everything I found online seemed so generic until I came across a DIY project on Pinterest.  I love this shirt and best part is, you can change it to say anything you want.  I had no clue about freezer paper until I found this and let me tell you, it is AMAZING.

I noticed that the tutorial had been taken down so below is my take on it.  I’ve also recreated the stencil.  Just click on the image and it should automatically download for you, then print it out!

  1. Print out the image on regular paper.
  2. Cut freezer paper to the same size as the image and lay on top.
  3. Secure freezer paper, waxy side down, on top of the printer paper with tape and cut out image (on freezer paper) with an exact-o knife (make sure cardboard or a cutting mat is under the paper so the surface that you’re working on doesn’t get damaged).
  4. Once the stencil has been cut, align image on the shirt (again, waxy side down)
  5. Press hot iron on top of the stencil for a good 10-15 seconds.  Check edges to make sure everything has adhered.  If the stencil is pulling up, that leaves room for paint to get under so give it another few seconds with the iron.
  6. Place cardboard in the shirt so the paint doesn’t bleed through to the back of the shirt.
  7. Using a sea sponge, dab paint on the shirt.  I think the sea sponge gives it a more vintage feel and it puts less paint on the shirt, making it more comfortable to wear.
  8. Once paint is dry to the touch, you can remove the stencil by pulling off carefully.
  9. Follow instructions on the paint bottle to determine drying time before washing.
