If you use disposable diapers and buy them from big box stores, I can guarantee you’re paying too much. How do I know? You used a coupon and a 5% discount card AND the store gave you a gift card for purchasing the diapers? Yep, you’re still paying too much. I’m going to sound like a big diaper nerd here but I don’t care because I’ve saved a TON of money and you can too!
My husband and I broke down the cost per diaper depending on varying situations and recorded all of the info in an Excel spreadsheet (told you I was a diaper nerd!). It turns out that even after the scenario shared above, we would still pay about 2-5 cents more per diaper when purchasing in a big box store. That may not sound like much but if you’re going through 144 diapers/month for one child, that’s up to a $7.20 savings. If you’re lucky and have two kids in diapers, we’re talking about $14.40…per month! And if you’re purchasing during a time when you don’t have a coupon nor a gift card back, that’s an even bigger savings! The money adds up and why shouldn’t you hold on to the cash you worked so hard for? Are you ready to hear our not so secret, secret?
Amazon.
You’ve looked at the prices on Amazon and they’re fairly similar to those at the big box stores (and other online diaper/baby websites), so where am I going with this? Stick with me here. If you’re already an Amazon Prime member, you’re halfway there. If you’re not, you’ll need to sign up (Try Amazon Prime 30-Day Free Trial). Amazon is offering a free 30-day trial with a charge of $99/year after with the option to cancel at any time. I’ve listed the additional benefits (besides your amazing diaper savings) below. Keep in mind that the diaper savings alone will pay for the membership fee.
You will also need to sign up for a FREE membership with Amazon Family which automatically saves you 20% on your diaper subscription. Note, you can not sign up for Amazon Family without being a Prime member (Join Amazon Family). Amazon Family allows you to “Subscribe and Save” by making a list of everyday items you want to purchase (paper towels, toilet paper, shampoo, deodorant and food items, etc.) and have them shipped directly to your house. Much less to worry about putting on your grocery list…and more savings!
In addition to pairing these two memberships, Amazon will notify you of coupons that you can use during your purchase to save you even more.
Amazon Prime Benefits:
- Unlimited FREE 2-Day Shipping
- Unlimited streaming of movies and TV shows with Prime Video
- Unlimited Music Streaming
- Unlimited Photo Storage

We’ve used this pairing technique for over 4 years now and haven’t looked back. In fact, if we’re on travel and haven’t packed an adequate amount of diapers and need to purchase extra from a store, it makes me cry a little on the inside because I know how much extra I’m paying for them. And it isn’t worth it. If you want to save money (and I don’t know anyone who doesn’t), this is one of the first things I highly recommend. If you still think I’m crazy, get in touch with your inner diaper nerd and whip up that spreadsheet! You’ll see!

I’m obsessed with Honest diapers and they occasionally send out coupons for 40 and 50 percent off! Plus, they are so cuuuute!
That’s awesome! I can’t stand how much money we’ve spent on diapers but knowing that we’re getting them at the best price and not overpaying, definitely helps! I’ll have to check out the Honest brand as well 🙂
